MassDOT to enhance pedestrian crossings at Route 5 in Longmeadow

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - A MassDOT project is underway in Longmeadow, and now the community is getting the chance to express their concerns.
The project aims to improve pedestrian safety at several intersections along Route 5. That includes Edgewood Ave at Longmeadow Street, along with Bliss Road and Emerson Road.
New concrete sidewalks and flashing lights are also being discussed…..Alerting drivers of people crossing. Project Manager Van Kacoyannakis told 22News, "Road work isn't going to happen until it goes out to bid, and it's going out to bid in 2028. Which we'll probably see construction the following year."
Questions regarding the project can be emailed to the chief engineer, MassDOTProjectManagement@dot.state.ma.us
