Andy Reid gives update on Rashee Rice ahead of training camp

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas Chiefs are awaiting a likely suspension from the NFL for third-year receiver Rashee Rice for his involvement in a six-vehicle crash in March 2024.

Rice was sentenced to five years of probation and 30 days of jail time for his participation in the crash. The jail time can be served during any of those five years.

Andy Reid spoke to the media as the Chiefs arrived at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, for training camp on Sunday. According to Coach Reid, for the time being, it'll be business as usual for Rice during camp.

"We're going to progress as normal with him. He'll go in and he's going to take all the reps that he'd normally take," Reid said.

"Depending on what happens here in the future, whoever needs to play will be able to step in, they'll know what they're doing and be in good shape to do it."

Reid also stated he doesn't know the timeline for when a punishment would be handed out for Rice.

The Texas native hasn't played in a football game for a while after missing 14 games due to suffering an LCL injury in Week 4 of the 2024 season. Rice was off to a strong start before the injury and looked primed for a breakout season.

While Rice is now healthy and expected to make a massive impact, the Chiefs may have to wait a little longer for his return to the field.
