April Weather Recap, and what to expect in May

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Wednesday is the last day of April, and western Massachusetts residents enjoyed some nice spring weather.

We have had some nice weather over the last couple of weeks, and it looks like we should see more of that next month as well. It was a beautiful day to end the month of April. There was plenty of sunshine, along with seasonable temperatures.

It continues to look more and more like spring, with everything blooming and getting green, and more leaves showing up on the trees. People took advantage of the nice weather at Forest Park in Springfield by walking dogs, riding bikes, and even fishing in the pond.

Early in the month, snow fell across western Massachusetts, with many areas picking up between two and six inches of snow. A week later, temperatures jumped up into the 80s.

"It was very wavery, continuous wavering," said Reverend Paolo Bagattini of Springfield. "We had ice until not a lot of days ago, now we are back to full springtime, and so waiting for summer."

Thursday is the first day of May, and the 8 to 14 Day Temperature Outlook is calling for warmer than average temperatures across most of the country and for us here in New England.

The 8 to 14 day Precipitation Outlook is calling for wetter than average conditions across the western half of the country, but drier than average conditions over the eastern half of the country and for us here in New England. Overall, it's looking like some pretty nice spring weather as we head into May.
