ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis Circuit Court judge signed an arrest warrant on Thursday for a man accused of shooting a woman earlier this year at a south city gas station.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened around 2 a.m. on April 13 in the 4300 block of South Broadway, located in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood.

Police said the victim, a 32-year-old woman, was standing outside the gas station when Larry Buchanan, 40, pulled up in a Chevy Impala.

Buchanan and the woman got into an argument when he pulled out a handgun and shot the woman in the lower back, police said. Buchanan fled in the Impala. The incident was caught on surveillance video.

Investigators eventually identified Buchanan as the primary suspect for the shooting.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Buchanan with first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of armed criminal action. Upon his arrest, he’ll be held without bond pending a court appearance.

Buchanan has four prior felony convictions, including two for being a felon in possession of a firearm, second-degree burglary, and first-degree assault.
