WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Being a single adult in the United States can be challenging.

Between societal and family pressure to settle down and start a family, handling feelings of loneliness or being left out as friends meet their respective partners, and missing out on the emotional support having a partner can provide, the single life can be difficult to manage. Where you live can also make dating and finding a partner difficult.

According to census data, over 117 million Americans are unmarried, representing nearly half of all adults. While the percentage of divorced Americans has remained roughly unchanged since the 1990s, the percentage of unmarried Americans has been steadily climbing since the 1970s.

Many factors can contribute to being single, including where you live. Some cities offer better opportunities to meet people and more things to do when looking for places to go on dates.
