City Council sells land on E. Division to Dollar General developer

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — City council voting unanimously Monday, May 5, to sell a plot of land to a developer for a Dollar General.

It will be a couple blocks down from the old Price Cutter that closed its doors on Division Street and Glenstone Avenue.

"There's just been a void since Price Cutter is gone," said Tarance Campbell, who lives behind the proposed Dollar General

Springfield City Council sold the land for $44,000 on E. Division to The Overland Group.

The Overland Group is known for building Dollar Generals.

"I would rather see that a Dollar General there than to see a liquor store," said neighbor Brenda Daniels.

Daniels says from where she lives, it would help her save more gas money than going to the other stores farther away.

"I have to drive to St. Louis and National to that Price Cutter, or I go to Walmart on Glenstone and Kearny Street," Daniels said. "But that would be even closer."

Campbell tells Ozarks First there is a need in the area for a store closer to home.

"There used to be a Price Cutter right down the road, and then since it's gone, you know, the closest thing is Walmart, which is definitely not within walking distance," Campbell said.
