CU provides new outage update Friday morning

SPRINGFIELD -- City Utilities announced their latest round of progress in returning power to customers are Tuesday's storms.

Winds of up to 90 mph were felt across Springfield on Tuesday morning, knocking out power to approximately 50,000 people. As of Friday morning at 4 a.m. the utility company says that number is down to about 4,800. In a press release, the company says there will be about 300 line workers trying to finish up the remaining outages.

In the last 24 hours, CU has restored power to an approximate 8,900 customers. The number of people the company reported to be without power early Thursday morning was 13,700. Wednesday, that number sat around 26,000.

As work continues to restore electricity, another issue residents will have to deal with is where to take debris and downed trees littered across their property. Springfield Environmental Services announced all brush disposal fees will be lifted at the Yardwaste Recycling Center through the weekend, as well as the Noble Hill Landfill, where residents are being urged to drop off larger debris.
