ST. LOUIS - A desperate search is underway for a St. Louis woman who vanished earlier this week. Her family fears she is in a mental health crisis.
26-year-old Daja Lucas was last seen along Highway 30 wandering a few days ago. Her family believes she's in a state of psychosis, and now they're pleading for the public's help to bring her home safely.
Lucas' family says her day started like any other Tuesday, Dec. 17. She dropped her two daughters off at school, returned home to rest, and later spoke with her father on the phone.
"She was talking to her father on the phone, and the conversation started to change. Her father noticed she was distressed," Lucas' aunt, Anetra Thornton, said.
Lucas' father tried to find her after she mentioned being on Miami Street, but the call ended abruptly.
"She started singing gospel songs while she was on the phone with her father, and her phone died before he could reach her. That was the last contact we've had with Daja," Thornton said.
Since then, Lucas has been spotted several times. Surveillance footage showed her sitting on a porch on Lemp Avenue for about 20 minutes. Later, a person saw her walking in and out of traffic on Gravois Road and called police.
Her family says she's known to go near bodies of water during episodes of psychosis and urges the public to check those areas.
"She is missed. We are looking for her. We want her to come. Her daughters want her to come home. They are missing their mommy," Thornton added.
The family says Lucas may now be wearing a gray hoodie and was last spotted along Highway 30.
St. Louis County Police say she was last spotted on Gravois Road in Sunset Hills.
If you see Lucas, the family asks you to call police immediately and watch her from a distance until help arrives.
