(KTVI) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports that contaminated cucumbers are linked to 100 salmonella cases across 23 states, following a recall that included products sold in Missouri and Illinois.
The FDA says the latest numbers marked an increase from 68 cases in early December.
In a statement Thursday, the FDA says out of 90 people they have information from, 25 have been hospitalized. While no deaths have been reported as of Saturday, many illnesses are believed to be severe.
An updated case count map reports no illnesses in Missouri, but 1-3 reported in Illinois.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced an investigation into contaminated cucumbers in late November.
A list of recalled products says contaminated cucumbers from the Sunfred Produce LLC brand were sold in Missouri and Illinois between October 12th and November 16th.
