JOPLIN, Mo. — Federal funds help make improvements to Joplin's Empire Market.
Using ARPA funding, a new security system and other improvements were purchased for the facility. Downtown Joplin Alliance operations manager Kristina Kosiorek says this is just the beginning of a series of building improvements totaling nearly $500,000.
Those funds are also earmarked for a roof over a pavilion at the rear of the market and new restrooms. The hope is the improvements will make the market a more inviting space for the public.
"We have been able to replace all the doors at the market. The two overhead garage doors have now become glass doors to let in all kinds of natural light during cold market days, and all of our metal and standard doors have been replaced with retail glass doors to make it more inviting for the public," said Kosiorek.
On a related note, the last "Holiday Market" for the year will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.
However, Empire Market will be open Tuesday, Christmas Eve, from 10 to 2 for last-minute shoppers.
