SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Homeowners in southeast Springfield made their voices heard at last night's Planning and Zoning meeting, and are concerned about the construction of a proposed 40-lot subdivision near Battlefield and Lone Pine.
The developer, JCRS Development, LLC, sought approval on a preliminary plat at the Dec. 19 meeting. A plat is a scaled map that shows a piece of land divided into lots.
The proposed Chimney Rock subdivision would include 40 homes on just shy of nine acres, making each lot about 1/10th of an acre in size.
Sonja Shaw and a handful of others who live in the neighboring Chimney Hills and Chimney Hills Place subdivisions attended Planning and Zoning meeting, hoping the commission would hear their concerns about the new proposal, which include the way the developer has gone about getting the development approved and traffic impacts in existing neighborhoods.
"Arcadia, which is currently a cul-de-sac there, to turn that into a through street and then also a brand new street coming out into Mimosa. So all the traffic from these homes, 40 homes onto already busy residential," said Shaw.
Melanie Bach, the president of the Galloway Village Association, says she's hoping to get this changed.
"My biggest concerns are with the way that the applicant has gone about applying for this as a replanting because none of the normal checks and balances apply on a replanting," Bach said. "We think that it should be either a complete, a straight rezoning or a planned development."
The meeting came to a standstill after one of the Planning and Zoning commissioners had a medical emergency, but OzarksFirst will update this story with more information if it becomes available.
