How many professional sports championships does St. Louis have?

ST. LOUIS - Despite having only three professional sports teams in the city, St. Louis has experienced a significant amount of championship glory in each sport. In fact, St. Louis is one of 11 cities across the United States to win a championship across the four biggest professional sports: football, hockey, baseball, and basketball.

The city of St. Louis has experienced a total of 14 championships across four sports since 1926. Check out the breakdown of all the championships won in St. Louis.

St. Louis Cardinals: 11 World Series Titles

The St. Louis Cardinals are one of the most storied franchises in all of Major League Baseball and lead the city in total championships, earning 11 championships since 1926. The organization's 11 titles make them the second-most accomplished postseason team in MLB history, only sitting behind the New York Yankees' 27 World Title victories.

The Cardinals previously won the World Series in 2011 after beating the Texas Rangers in a thrilling seven-game series. Since its 2011 World Series title, the Cardinals have advanced to the postseason 8 times and last appeared during the 2022 NL Wild Card Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Currently, the Cardinals are trying to focus on a youth-driven reset that includes reducing payroll for next season and focusing on player development.

So far during the offseason, the team let former MVP Paul Goldschmidt walk away in free agency after he agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Yankees. The Cardinals are also expected to trade veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado in the upcoming weeks.

St. Louis Blues: 1 Stanley Cup Championship

The St. Louis Blues were able to join the city's championship conversation following the team's winner-take-all Game 7 Stanley Cup victory against the Boston Bruins in 2019.

The eventual champions experienced both highs and lows during the 2018-2019 season. After facing early season challenges and undergoing a coaching change midseason, the St. Louis Blues became the second team in NHL history (the 2012 Los Angeles Kings) to win the Stanley Cup after finishing the season ranked 12th or lower in the overall league standings, according to NHL Records.

The team also became the first team in 30 years and the fourth team in the modern era to win the Stanley Cup Championship without a previous winner on its roster.

The Blue's Stanley Cup title was the city's most recent professional championship victory and ended the NHL’s longest drought—52 years—for a first-time champion.

St. Louis Rams: 1 NFL Championship

St. Louis has been home to two NFL teams: the Cardinals and the Rams. Although both teams would later relocate out west, St. Louis had the opportunity to experience one of the greatest teams in NFL history, the Greatest Show on Turf, during the 1999-2000 season.

According to Bleacher Report, the Greatest Show on Turf ranked first in total yards, points scored, and point differential of 284 points during their championship season. Defensively, the team ranked sixth in yards allowed and fourth in points.

The legendary team features four athletes in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: running back Marshall Faulk, offensive tackle Orlando Pace, quarterback Kurt Warner, and wide receiver Isaac Bruce. The team could add another member to the prestige club as wide receiver Torry Holt was named a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

St. Louis Hawks: 1 NBA Championship

St. Louis was once the home of the NBA's Hawks from 1955 to 1968. During the team's 13-year history in the city, the St. Louis Hawks, currently the Atlanta Hawks, made the playoffs every year except once.

The Hawks appeared in four NBA Finals, winning the title against the Bill Russell-led Boston Celtics in 1958. The Hawks were able to prevail in a series-clinching Game 6 win with a 50-point performance from NBA Hall of Famer Bob Pettit.

The St. Louis Hawks were competitive during their time in St. Louis but were later relocated following the 1968 season after the team was purchased by a group of Atlanta investors. Since the Hawks relocated to Atlanta, the team has not experienced much playoff success, failing to appear in an NBA Finals since its time in St. Louis.
