Islamic youth group sends Christmas outreach in St. Louis County

MANCHESTER, Mo. – Members of the Youth Advancement Coalition (YAC) provided hot meals and winter supplies to those in need Wednesday for their Islamic Christmas outreach efforts.

"Getting to know that I'm helping other people, especially around the holidays, is really fulfilling for me and I feel like I'm making a difference," volunteer Iman Nisar said.

The teens met in the wee hours at the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis to prepare.

"They came in the morning, bright and early, baked pies, put together boxes of cookies, put together bread and biscuits and boxes of personal items," parent Saba Nisar said. "Just to make somebody's day better."

On boxed meals, YAC members wrote a personalized message: "Happy holidays from your Muslim neighbor!"

"We are trying to support everybody and just trying to make a better future for our world," volunteer Shayaan Raja said.

They also made stops for West County first responders and dropped off baked goods.

"We love our community," Saba Nisar said. "This is our home. And our kids are going to be the catalyst for our future, and we want them to be positive individuals that create a good environment and put out a goodness to the universe."

The group will continue their outreach efforts when Ramadan launches in February.
