JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin firefighters rescued a woman over the weekend from a house fire, officials said Monday.
Shortly before 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Joplin 911 dispatch was notified of a structure fire at 1602 Byers Ave. Crews with the Joplin Fire Department located the structure with visible flames coming from the second floor and immediately started a search for occupants.
Firefighters found a 40-year-old woman on the second floor and safely removed her from the building. She was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment. No other victims were found.
The fire was under control and extinguished in about 30 minutes. Investigators and the Joplin Fire Marshal said that candles on the second floor could be the cause.
