JOPLIN, Mo. — Christmas comes early for several local non-profits.
A total of 16 organizations received more than $24,700 in grant money from the Joplin Regional Community Foundation. One of those organizations is NALA Adult Literacy.
Jessica Pommert says she will use their $1,000 grant to keep more accurate accounts of volunteer and student hours and match students with the right curriculum.
"To be able to purchase new tests for our program, we've been using outdated tests for a long time and now we have the funding to purchase online tests to be able to put our students in the correct curriculum," said Jessica Pommert, executive director of Joplin NALA.
"Knowing that budgets are tight, especially for our area charities, I know every dollar makes a difference. So, we're hoping with these grants from the Lawellin Fund that a big, big number of them will be able to make a big impact," said Louise Secker, chairman of the Joplin Regional Community Foundation.
The Joplin Regional Community Foundation was founded in 2006 and gives out grants twice a year.
