ST. LOUIS – A man is due in St. Louis Circuit Court on Monday afternoon after being arrested last week for breaking into a bar and stealing a slot machine.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the break-in happened overnight on Sunday, Dec. 1, at The Tavern in the 2800 block of Watson Road.
The owner arrived at the bar around 9 a.m. and discovered evidence of a break-in.
Police reviewed bar surveillance footage and saw a dark-colored vehicle pull in front of the bar around 2:15 a.m. Someone inside the car threw a brick through the window.
The car pulled away, but two men can be seen walking back to the bar and entering the business, police said.
Both men take turns carrying the slot machine. One of the men is holding a sledgehammer.
On Dec. 11, police in St. Louis County conducted a traffic stop of a car matching the make, model, and color of the vehicle used in the break-in.
The driver, George H. McMullin, 52, was wearing mostly similar attire seen on the surveillance footage. Police said a bag in McMullin’s car contained a distinctive jacket one of the burglars wore.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged McMullin with second-degree burglary, first-degree property damage, and stealing – $750 or more.
