Police investigating possible death in Overland
Overland Police are investigating a shooting that occurred overnight on Holtwood Road, with officers expected to remain at the scene for some time.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - Police have been investigating a tense and emotional scene at a home in Overland for several hours Wednesday morning.
The reported incident took place on Holtwood Road off Leslie Avenue around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning. A neighbor reported hearing a gunshot from the house and called police.
Neighbors are still anxiously waiting for answers. A man who lives nearby said he knows the family living in the house and described his growing concern after being unable to reach his friend, who he believes may have been involved in an argument with his son. The neighbor texted the man he calls his friend just before 11 p.m. Tuesday and never received a response back. He anticipates a negative outcome.
Just after 7 a.m. Wednesday, the St. Louis County Medical Examiner's office arrived at the scene, eventually loading a gurney onto one of their vehicles. While police have not confirmed any details on their investigation, the presence of the medical examiner suggests they may be investigating a potential death.
Police had Holtwood Road and Leslie Avenue taped off as officers moved in and out of the house, processing evidence. Officers later moved the crime scene tape around the home and a purple Jeep parked off to the side of the home.
Neighbors say they’ve reported disturbances at the home in the past to police. Neighbor Krystal Lea and her roommate were shocked at what they woke up to Wednesday morning.
“I'm sad it wasn't addressed sooner,” neighbor Krystal Lea said. "I think this absolutely could have been prevented if our concerns had been taken more seriously because this is not the kind of neighborhood where this type of thing happens."
Investigators say they will release more information when they are authorized to do so.
