BRANSON, Mo. — After being closed for about a year and a half, the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) cut the ribbon on a renovated hatchery in Branson.
The new hatchery building is twice the size of the previous one, which was torn down to make way for the new visitors' center.
The building features classroom space for public education and an aquarium for visitors to view rainbow and brown trout up close.
The MDC says they are excited to continue teaching about the trout hatchery and conservation in their new, improved space.
"In the summer months, it's not unusual to have 1,000 or 1,200 or even 1,500 people a day come through the building," said Warren Rose, MDC Education Regional Supervisor. "So we're happy to serve those folks and teach them about fish or wildlife resources here in the state of Missouri."
Visitors will be able to tour throughout the hatchery and even feed fish for just a quarter. Building hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
