FLORISSANT, Mo. - Residents filled a meeting room with MoDOT Thursday regarding their frustration of a major route left with snow and ice on it 12 days after an impactful winter weather system.
Along N. Highway 67 in Florissant, the ice-covered road has caused treacherous travel for drivers.
“It’s a mess! And now with the snow, it’s even more disturbing because now you have to fight the snow. It’s not been plowed all the way off the right lane,” Hazelwood resident Catherine Gruebbeling said.
Not only did residents have questions about the snow, but they had questions about the upcoming Route 67 design.
“This Lindbergh project. You know, am I supposed to get to work? Am I going to have to take a detour?” Gruebbeling added.
MoDOT says they’ll minimize disruptions.
“This specific project is going to have a single lane closure to do the sidewalk work, and you’ll have lane closures usually over night to do the paving operations,” MoDOT North St. Louis County Area Engineer Tabitha Locke said.
While some applaud the project’s focus on safety and accessibility, others worry about overlapping construction schedules with nearby Howdershell Road, one of Hazelwood’s busiest streets.
Residents are also offering suggestions to improve intersections like Lindsay Lane and St. Dennis Street.
“We’ve got about five roads coming into one intersection, and it’s just crazy. Maybe one of those traffic circles might help,” Florissant resident Jospeh Kane said.
Improvements include pavement resurfacing, upgrading existing sidewalks and curb ramps, and reconstruction of traffic signals.
MoDOT estimates the project will cost $11.3 million. Construction will begin in spring 2026 and is expected to be complete by fall 2027.
