SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The City of Springfield is considering the possibility of bringing professional soccer to the Queen City.
According to a press release, the city is in preliminary discussions with the United Soccer League (USL) about bringing men's and women's soccer to Springfield.
City Council will hear a measure at a meeting on Dec. 3 that will consider a letter of intent (LOI) and sharing feasibility research costs with USL.
Director of Economic Vitality and Workforce Development Amanda Ohlensehlen said the work could include discussions about developing city-owned property (1109 E. Trafficway) into a soccer stadium.
City Council will hear a first reading at its Council Lunch Workshop at 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, with a public hearing carried over and an expected vote on Dec. 16. More details are available with the meeting agenda found here.
