SPRINGFIELD - Starting December 2nd at 7 a.m. there will be road closures in the Galloway area as the Galloway Street Widening Project continues. From the 2nd to the 5th Lone Pine Avenue will be closed between the Galloway Street intersection and the northern intersection to Sequiota Park for stormwater infrastructure improvements.
“Galloway is in the middle of a floodway, and we deal with floods on a regular basis. In fact, if you look at the businesses over there like the Rock, they have warning signs about the flooding down here,” says Melanie Bach, President of the Galloway Village Neighborhood Association.
Bach also says the closure will affect her daily commute, and she knows it will for others in the area as well.
"I do turn right on to Lone Pine off Barton quite a bit. So, I'm definitely going to have to adjust my routes to the places that I go on a regular basis. And a lot of people are going to have to do that,” says Bach.
After that closure Lone Pine south of Galloway will close all the way to Barton Street. Stormwater infrastructure improvements will also be made, as well as road work and light pollution installations. This closure is expected to last one to two weeks. Bach says this has her concerned for businesses in the area.
"I know that it's not a great time of year for a lot of the businesses down here to be dealing with closures because the holiday season is when they do a lot of their sales for the year,” says Bach.
