Suspect caught wearing stolen earrings with tags still on: Police

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. – A suspected earring thief was arrested earlier this month while behind the wheel of a stolen minivan.

According to the St. Peters Police Department’s probable cause statement, the jewelry theft took place on Dec. 6. The name and location of the business were not mentioned, nor was the time of the crime.

Police said Darlene Slaughter (age not provided) entered the business and tried on two pairs of earrings valued at approximately $6,000. Slaughter then walked out of the store with the four earrings still in her ear.

The salesperson confronted Slaughter after she left the store, but police said Slaughter implied she had a weapon and threatened to shoot the store employee.

Slaughter was arrested a short time later. She was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan, which had been reported stolen the day prior, police said. The earrings, still in Slaughter's ear, had the store tags attached.

Police allege that Slaughter admitted to stealing the earrings but denied implying she had a weapon.

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Slaughter with first-degree robbery, stealing a motor vehicle, and stealing – all other property. Slaughter remains jailed on a $200,000 cash-only bond. She’s due in court for a bond hearing on Thursday, Dec. 12.
