Tuesday, December 10 forecast: Arctic air attacks but makes a quick retreat

Today came with brighter skies (mainly this morning), but it also came with colder temperatures with highs running about 10° colder than Monday. Bad news, Wednesday looks colder, but the current chill will make a quick retreat later this week.

Our next Arctic cold front will arrive by Wednesday morning. The arctic blast will bring some clouds and there may even be a few snow flurries or light snow showers northeast of Springfield. Temperatures will only warm into the 30s on Wednesday with gusty northwest winds driving wind chills into the teens and 20s.

Thursday will begin cold in the upper teens and 20s but will transition into a milder mode as a warm front lifts north out of Arkansas. The day as a whole looks nice with a mix of sun and high clouds and temperatures climbing into the 50s.

Our next chance of rain is lining up for Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. Rain amounts will be generally less than a half inch. Light rain or drizzle may linger Saturday morning but should be gone by midday. Temperatures both Friday and Saturday will be governed by cloud cover, cooler on Friday and a little warmer with some afternoon sun Saturday.

We'll end the weekend with sunshine and milder weather Sunday. Again, clouds could play a role in just how warm, but right now it looks bright enough for highs well into the 50s, possibly near 60°.

Another front will sweep through Monday with a chance for showers. Temperatures this weekend into early next week will run above normal and the general pattern through Christmas will offer up more of the same. Any shots of cold will be quick with temperatures generally above normal.
