Wednesday, December 4 forecast: Arctic attack recedes by the weekend

Big temperature spike today with highs near 60° after an extended spell of cold weather. The day got off to a warmer start with temperatures climbing into the 40s before sunrise peaking in the upper 50s and low 60s. As quickly as the warmer weather developed it will be erased overnight thanks to an arctic attack.

The arctic front arrives near midnight with gusty winds and tumbling temperatures. By morning readings will be in the upper teens and 20s with wind chills in the single digits. The cold won't relent during the day with afternoon readings below freezing across much of the Ozarks.

The week will end with a frigid feel in the morning but will come with the promise of warmer weather over the weekend as winds again pick up out of the southwest.

Sunday will come with a quick increase in cloud cover that could blunt the warmup. There will also be a risk of rain, mainly south of I-44 during the afternoon.

Monday is shaping up to be a transition day and may come with some clouds and cool temperatures before the next arrival of winter air on Tuesday.
