Will St. Louis see a white Christmas this year?

ST. LOUIS - Are you "dreaming of a white Christmas?" Chances are you aren't the only one, and meteorologists have released their predictions for Christmas Day snowfall in St. Louis.

According to the National Weather Service, St. Louis has a 20 percent chance of seeing a white Christmas, which is 7 percent higher than the chances last year.

What counts as a white Christmas, though?

If there is at least one inch of snow sticking on the ground by 6 a.m. Christmas Day, it qualifies.

While the percentage of the outcome isn't the highest, there's still a chance.

Additionally, there's a 25 percent change for measurable precipitation and 13 percent of measurable snowfall on Dec. 25.

The last time the area saw a white Christmas was in 2022 with a snow depth of one inch, the NWS noted. The most snow St. Louis has seen on Christmas Day was 9.2 inches in 1913.

NWS adds that there have been 23 instances of its classification of a “White Christmas” in St. Louis since it started measuring such trends in 1893.
