Wreaths Across America honors veterans at Jefferson Barracks

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - Thousands of volunteers with Wreaths Across America gathered at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in south St. Louis County Saturday to honor veterans.

They worked feverishly amid falling rain and bitter cold temperatures to place Remembrance Wreaths on the headstones of the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

There are more than 199,000 men and women interred at Jefferson Barracks. Many were buried with full military honors. Kathy Schulte has served as location coordinator for eight years. She got involved with Wreaths Across America after her son enlisted in the Army.

"It is a labor of love for me,” she said. “And it’s giving back to those who gave so much.”

The volunteers placed more than 36,000 wreaths with festive greenery and vibrant red bows on the graves, creating a spectacular tribute to those who served.

Jefferson Barracks is open every day from sunrise to sunset. The Remembrance Wreaths display will be removed Jan. 18, 2025.
