ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A two-year-old boy was hospitalized after investigators say he accidentally shot himself with a misplaced gun Monday in St. Louis County.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has charged the boy's father, Carnell Berry, 44, with endangering the welfare of a child in the investigation.
According to court documents obtained by FOX 2, Berry left a handgun on the floor of a bedroom while changing clothes. At some point, he left the room without securing the gun or putting it in a different spot.
A short time later, Berry's two-year-old son reportedly found the gun, carried it into the kitchen, and shot himself in the hand.
Court documents did not disclose the extent of the child's injuries from the incident, nor where in St. Louis County the child shot himself.
This is a developing story. FOX 2 will update as more information becomes available.
