JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri lawmakers will weigh two bills recently filed proposing to name portions of Missouri roadways after President-elect Donald Trump; one bill includes a roadway in St. Charles County.
According to the bill filed last week by Senator Nick Schroer in St. Charles County, it proposes to rename a portion of Highway D in St. Charles to "President Donald J. Trump Highway."
The roadway on Highway D between Highway 94 and Highway T could be renamed after Trump.
The bill states private donations will pay for the creation and maintenance of roadway signs designating the highway. If passed, the department of transportation would designate the portion of Highway D on August 28, 2025.
Senator Mary Coleman also filed a proposal to designate a portion of Interstate 55 between Highway 141 and Richardson Road in Jefferson County as "Donald J. Trump Highway." The costs of roadway signs would also be paid for private donations.
Though this isn't Coleman's first attempt at renaming a Missouri roadway after Trump. In 2021, she attempted to rename a portion of Interstate 55 in Jefferson County.
In a news release, Coleman said her attempt at renaming the roadway in 2021 was her “way of saying ‘thank you’ to President Trump for strengthening Missouri’s economy, defending our values, and making America great again during his historic first term.”
According to our partners at the Post-Dispatch, Coleman's proposal shortly died after facing opposition from Democrats in the Legislature.
Both proposals have been filed for the upcoming 2025 legislative session, which begins on January 8.
