MISSOURI - If you're looking for some extra cash during the holiday season, there's a chance you have some sitting with the Missouri State Treasurer's Unclaimed Property.
According to Missouri Treasurer Vivek Malek's website, the state currently has over $1 billion sitting unclaimed by residents.
Nicknamed "Missouri's largest lost and found," these assets come from financial institutions, businesses, government agencies, or other agencies that hand over money into the treasurer's office but then aren't claimed by the owner.
The website states that 1 in 10 Missourians have assets that are unclaimed with the office, and the average return is $300.
To search for any of your unclaimed property, simply click here and fill out your information. Property can be searched by name, business, or property ID numbers. The website will then show any unclaimed property along with the amount.
All you have to do is click "add" for it to be put in your cart. Several properties can be claimed at the same time.
If you've moved anywhere in the state, be sure to check old addresses as well.
Once you've finished, you can check out with all the properties you've selected. If you create an account with the state treasurer's office, you will also be able to track the status of your mailed check.
The office also allows residents to be notified by email if and when any unclaimed property assets arise. To sign up for those emails, click here.
