Brentwood says there's no safety concern after threat closes schools
The Brentwood School District says there is no immediate safety concern after closing schools Friday due to a school threat.
BRENTWOOD, Mo. - The Brentwood School District says there is no immediate safety concern after closing schools Friday due to a school threat.
The district sent an email out just before 6:30 a.m. Friday, closing down all Brentwood schools for the day.
"I think it's just creating this perpetual anxiety in the youth," Brentwood resident Maisie Leeker said.
Leeker was a teacher before she moved to Missouri about a year ago. She said she sees threats like this far too often.
"I took a step away from teaching because I noticed what it was doing to kids, creating anxiety coming to school," Leeker said.
"While the threat was reportedly at the middle school, the district tells FOX 2 they made the decision to close all schools Friday "out of an abundance of caution and in consultation with the Brentwood Police Department."
After investigating, the district said that the threat came from outside of the school community and that there is no immediate safety concern.
"I don't think that's something any student should have to deal with in the classroom—thinking about that when really they should be there to develop and learn, and interact with their peers," Leeker added.
School will resume as normal on Monday, but district officials say increased police presence will be at all of the schools out of extra caution.
