CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan. — It's life in prison for a Galena man convicted of killing another man last year.
Billy Barker today was sentenced to the Hard 50 in a Cherokee County courtroom for the shooting death of Levi Porter.
Barker also received 24 months for felony weapons charges — which will run the same time as the life sentence.
In June of this year, a jury found Barker guilty of first-degree murder after a three-day trial.
Barker shot Porter in the back of the head at a residence in Galena on April 18 of last year. It killed him instantly.
Porter's friends and family showed up at the trial and told us they wanted people to remember Porter for the good and kind person he was.
Barker's attorneys asked for a new trial, but the judge denied the request.
