“ChristMustangs!”: Local duo lights up the holidays on four wheels

JOPLIN, Mo. — There are certain things that always make us think of Christmas. Christmas trees, Santa, presents, baby Jesus. But what about Ford Mustangs?

"Luke said, 'hey, I have an idea.' I was like, 'okay.' And then he's like, 'meet me at Walmart.'" said Miguel Alvarado, Christmas Lights on Car.

It was an idea for Christmas on four wheels.

"We bought 1000 to see if it fill up the cars. That 1000 went by really fast," said Alvarado.

Miguel Alvarado and Luke Aggus ended up with 1500 feet of Christmas lights on each of their Mustangs.

"Christmas is probably my favorite holiday. I like anything car-related, and I like the lights for sure. Love looking at Christmas lights, so figured I'd let people see it on the road too," said Aggus.

The project is a hit, prompting a big response to what they're calling their "ChristMustangs!"

"Had a lot of people stop, talk to me, take pictures with the car. Everyone seems to like it. I do too. It's a lot of fun. Have people come up and get in the Christmas spirit just by seeing your car," said Aggus.

"A lot of people like to see the lights on. So, if I have them off and they like, drive next to me, they like, 'can you please turn them on?' And then everyone takes pictures, videos, or they have their kids staying in front of it. It's all fun and games. I love it," said Alvarado.

Luke and Miguel say there is a downside — like waiting until after Christmas to wash their cars — and plans to take them in for a professional detail job after the fact to work out any scratches or damage to their cars.

Still, they're not ruling it out for 2025.

"Considering I bought more Christmas lights for my car than at my house, I might as well just do it next year as well," said Alvarado.
