CARTERVILLE, Mo. — A Carterville bar opened its doors for a victorious day of Christmas fellowship.
Shirley’s Neighborhood Tavern hosted a free self-serve Christmas dinner.
On the menu was ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls.
Folks could also bring their own side dishes to share.
Dinner wasn’t the only attraction.
Attendees also had a chance to watch today’s Chiefs game, which was streamed exclusively on Netflix.
Brock Powell is a co-owner of the bar.
He says Christmas Day gatherings at the bar are becoming a beloved staple of holidays -- even if it doesn’t involve the Chiefs.
"We did one last year, because the Chiefs played last year on Christmas. So, that was our first year doing a Christmas Day 'Chiefs', but previous to that year, we just were open on Christmas for people that didn’t have somewhere to go to, and my wife and I, we would just cook a Christmas dinner and it was just free to whoever wanted to come eat dinner and didn’t have somewhere to belong," said Brock Powell, Shirley’s Neighborhood Tavern co-owner.
Powell says they’re already looking forward to holiday gatherings next year for Christmas, and Thanksgiving.
