NEOSHO, Mo. — Christmas Day is full of family traditions.

One of those traditions takes place at your local movie theatre.

It may not be jingle bells, but for many on Christmas Day, tradition can be found, in the sound, of the movie theater.

"My parents wanted to make Christmas more than just about gifts, and they really wanted to emphasize spending time with each other. We all kind of like watching movies together at home anyway, so we just decided, 'let’s go see if we can watch a movie on Christmas together,'" said Katelyn Bebee, Christmas moviegoer.

It’s a tradition the Bebee family of Carl Junction continues to carry on.

"Probably over fourteen years," said Katelyn Bebee.

Christmas Day is the busiest day of the year for movie theatres.

That was the case at B&B Theatres in Neosho.

"It’s just a good thing to do on the holidays because a lot of things are closed, but luckily we’re open. We’ve got to spread the holiday cheer," said Gage Roberts, B&B Theatres Neosho assistant manager.

Christmas day showings at B&B started at noon with the musical, "Wicked."

"We were (deciding) between Wicked and Moana 2, but my mom and I have actually seen Wicked on Broadway. I wanted to see Wicked for sure," said Katelyn Bebee.

"Most movies are performing well. Wicked is just a blast, everyone loves a musical," said Gage Roberts, B&B Theatres Neosho assistant manager.

And that includes the Bebee family.

"The Greatest Showman was good. We all liked that one," said Katelyn Bebee.

For many, the cinematic Christmas tradition highlights the importance of family.

"Getting the snacks, the popcorn, and the drinks together, just kind of sharing in these experiences with each other, and just giving us something to talk about, watch some cinema and enjoy each other’s presence and company," said Will Bebee, Christmas moviegoer.

"It takes out maybe the constant conversation that you’re having to have and you really can just enjoy being around the people that you love," said Katelyn Bebee.
