(KTLA) -- Disneyland has announced a closing date for the Red Car Trolley attraction at Disney California Adventure as construction for an expansion of Avengers Campus nears.
The last day guests can ride the attraction will be on Feb. 8, 2025. Construction for the expansion of the Marvel-themed area will begin that same year.
At this year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, announced two new attractions are coming to the land.
The first ride, Avengers: Infinity Defense, will transport riders to locations across the Marvel Universe, including New York City, the nation of Wakanda and Thor’s home planet of Asgard, as the Avengers battle King Thanos and attempt to foil his plans for universal chaos, Disney announced. The second ride, Stark Flight Lab, will pair riders with Avengers as they test out new superhero equipment.
Due to the anticipated construction, some backstage locations in the area will be impacted, including the backstage Red Car Trolley barn.
According to the Orange County Register, the Red Car Trolley attraction debuted in 2012 as part of a reimagining of the DCA entry promenade.
The attraction closed in 2019 to allow for the construction of Avengers Campus and didn’t return until 2022 following the COVID-19 pandemic closure of the parks. The attraction was also used as the backdrop for the "Red Car News Boys," a 15-minute show that was canceled in 2019.
The show was inspired by Disney's Newsies musical and movie and featured songs from the 1920s and 1930s.
The Red Car trolley is a transportation vehicle that takes riders through Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land, making stops near DCA’s main entrance, Carthay Circle Restaurant, the Animation Academy building, and the Hyperion Theater.
