ST. LOUIS - Many of Missouri's most affluent counties, according to new data, gravitate toward one of the state's two major metropolitan hubs: St. Louis and Kansas City.
SmartAsset, a consumer-focused financial information and advice website, recently released an interactive map that highlights the "wealthiest" counties in each state.
The findings are based on median incomes, investment incomes, and property values in each state. SmartAsset used data from the IRS, Census, and Zillow to evaluate every U.S. county and ultimately rank them through a wealth index.
Of the 10 richest counties, five are located in the St. Louis region, four in the Kansas City region and one in the Springfield region. Some of Missouri's wealthiest counties had median incomes near $100,000 and median home values near $370,000.
From 10th to first, these Missouri counties finished with the best SmartAsser Wealth Index:

In St. Charles County, which finished with a state-best index score of 30.04, the median income was $99,596, investment income was $31,023 and median home value was $350,660.
Meanwhile, SmartAsset found the wealthiest county in the United States to be Teton County in Wyoming, with a median income of $108,279, an investment income of $1,314,618 and a median home value of $2,242,021.
