JOPLIN, Mo. — Freeman Health System is once again providing a resource for people who need to sign up for the Affordable Care Act program's health insurance.
Six navigators with Freeman Eligibility Partners are licensed insurance agents trained and ready to help people choose what plan works for them.
They tell us the application process can be overwhelming, so they're available to answer questions about coverage and benefits.
The program opens up doors to identify people who may think they cannot afford health care and links them to appropriate resources.
"That typically covers anything from an outpatient medical visit with a doctor to a hospital outpatient service or inpatient. And there are different programs. They go by medals, so there is Bronze, Silver, and Gold that offer a little bit more coverage based on which plans you choose," said Lisa Apfelbaum, Freeman Health System Director of Patient Financial Services.
The ACA open enrollment period is going on right now through January 15.
That coverage will take effect on February 1.
If you want your coverage to begin on January 1, you need to sign up by December 15.
