Fatal crash closes I-64 in O’Fallon, Illinois

O’FALLON. Ill — Two people are dead and following a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 in O'Fallon, Illinois, forcing the closure of eastbound lanes at mile marker 19.
One of the drivers appears to have been going the wrong way. The dense fog may have also been a contributing factor in the crash.
Emergency responders had to extricate at least two victims from the wreckage. One victim was transported from the scene by ambulance and died at a nearby hospital, while the other died at the crash site.
The eastbound lanes of I-64 remain closed at exit 19 as investigators work to determine the cause of the crash. Emergency crews have redirected other drivers off the highway.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved or additional details about the circumstances of the crash.
