OSCEOLA, Mo. -- The small community of Iconium is devastated after a fire destroyed a local general store early Sunday morning.
According to a Facebook post from the Iconium Fire Protection District (IFPD), their firefighters responded to a fire at Scott's Iconium store after a 911 call from owner Shannon Tucker at approximately 2 a.m.
IFPD says the fire destroyed the store's interior, but the walls and roof were left standing. No one was reported injured in the fire, but firefighters had to return to the scene at around 11 a.m. Sunday after flames were rekindled.
A Missouri State Fire Marshal investigator arrived at the scene Sunday morning and could not determine a cause of the fire, but did say it was possible that an electrical malfunction or the fireplace may have started the fire.
Scott's Iconium Store was originally built in 1896 and has had several additions in its over a century of operations, says owner Shannon Tucker. Shannon and his wife Nikki have owned the store since 2012 after buying it from Ginger and Wayne Scott, whose family owned the store since 1946.
IFPD was helped by other area fire departments from Deepwater, Lowry City, Roscoe, Sac-Osage, Warsaw, Weaubleau and Wheatland in fighting the fire.
