WEST PLAINS, Mo. - Two people have died and two others were taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash in West Plains late Saturday night.
According to the West Plains Police Department (WPPD), their officers and the West Plains Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 160 and Ramseur Road at 10:38 p.m.
At the scene, they found a 2008 Ford Escape severely damaged on the driver's side in a ditch near the road. Both the 76-year-old male driver and the 76-year-old female passenger in the Ford Escape were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officals also located a 2015 Dodge Durango with substantial damage in the front in the middle turning lane on U.S. Highway 160. A 17-year-old male driver and a 17-year-old female passenger were found in the vehicle and were transported to local hospitals.
A preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that the Dodge Durango was southbound on U.S. 160 and the Ford Escape was eastbound on County Road 6070 towards Ramseur Road when the crash happened. The cause of the vehicle crash is still being investigated by the WPPD Reconstruction Team.
The roadways were closed for a short time after the crash and were re-opened for traffic just after 1:30 a.m.
