High school students explore careers at Freeman's MASH Camp

JOPLIN, Mo. — 50 high school juniors get a first-hand look into life in the medical industry.

Those 50 juniors are from Southwest High School in Washburn.

They took part in a "MASH" camp at Freeman East in Joplin today.

The purpose of the camp is to showcase different career options that keep the healthcare sector in working order.

Those range from medical workers, technology professionals, even housekeeping.

"There's a lot of studies showing that children begin to take interest in specific fields at a very young age. So, they might not be yes, they wanna be a nurse, but they have specific activities that involve what's going to be with a nurse. So, the younger that we can get kids interested in specific fields and let them know 'hey, you might not be a 4.0 GPA student and you might not have the best grades, that might not be your interest, but there's still a need for you and you can do all kinds of other things in healthcare," said Esther Bard, Freeman Healthcare Development Specialist.

Freeman's MASH camp is open to any school in the Four States wanting to participate.
