WINNETKA, Ill. (WGN) – The home of the infamous South Bend Shovel Slayer is up for sale.

The property, which recently hit the market in Winnetka, Illinois, was featured in the 1990 holiday classic "Home Alone" — but it wasn't the grand McAllister residence where most of the movie's action takes place. Rather, it was the next-door home of Old Man Marley, whose character was initially (and incorrectly) rumored to be a serial killer who murdered his victims with a shovel.

The home, at 681 Lincoln Avenue in north-shore Winnetka, is now listed for sale of $3.8 million, according to Zillow. It was re-listed at that price in early September, after being listed at $4.2 million in late July.

Film cameo

The house at 681 Lincoln Ave. isn't nearly as well known as the neighboring property at 671 Lincoln Ave. in Winnetka, which appeared in "Home Alone" as the home of Kevin McCallister and his large, chaotic family. But it did receive a cameo in the 1990 film, as a Crain's Chicago Business feature on the property noted: Old Man Marley, played by late actor Roberts Blossom, was seen shoveling and salting the walkways in front the house near the beginning of the movie.

While the home isn't quite as recognizable as its more famous neighbor, the real-life property might be just as nice, as suggested by its nearly $4 million listing price.

The home was built in 1898 and was a creation of Benjamin Marshall, a major influence on the architecture of modern Chicago, the listing says. The home sits on two-thirds of an acre in Winnetka and features six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, one half-bathroom, a balcony, a library, a putting green, a large in-ground pool, a half basketball court, and plenty more.

The listing itself does not make mention of the home's "Home Alone" cameo, but does direct readers to the Crain's Chicago feature.

There's also no word on whether the purchase price includes a snow shovel, like the one used by Old Man Marley to bash the Wet Bandits into unconsciousness at the end of the movie.

That more recognizable "Home Alone" house next-door, meanwhile, was listed for sale in May at $5.25 million and has a sale pending.
