JASPER COUNTY, Mo. — The Jasper County Commission is officially committed to a broadband expansion project.
Commissioners voted today to spend two million dollars in ARPA funding to make high-speed internet connections available in rural parts of the county.
They've been working to evaluate which areas of Jasper County have the highest need and how much they can reach with the funding available.
Federal requirements mean they had to commit to the project by the end of the year.
"Really, we would hope we could get it to everybody. Realistically I don't know if that will happen. But certainly, we want to identify the highest areas we can get this to in a quick and effective manner," said Darieus Adams, Jasper Co. Comm.
Jasper County got about 23 million dollars in ARPA funding overall.
The rest of the grant has already been committed to projects like the new Health Science Innovation Center at MSSU and road construction to widen 20th Street west of Joplin.
