JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin police officers could be a step closer to getting take-home patrol vehicles.
During Monday night’s city council meeting (11/2), council members voted unanimously to have the city manager put together an ordinance authorizing 16 take-home patrol vehicles to be purchased during the 2025 fiscal year — with the remainder of the vehicles to be purchased in 2026.
This would allow every eligible officer to have their own patrol vehicle.

The price tag on the total initial investment is nearly $2.7 million, with annual replacement costs of more than $1.7 million.
Monday night’s vote gives city staff the “green light" to draft an ordinance that would be presented to council at a later day for final approval.
