JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin City Council was presented Monday night (11/2) with the latest estimate on costs to improve West 20th Street.

The most recent estimated cost of the project is just over $14 million. That's a savings of more than $2 million compared to the original funding estimate.
Improvements to West 20th Street will be partially funded by “ARPA" funds, which have helped the city pay for several large projects.
"It's a tremendous opportunity between ARPA and the BIL, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These grants have been really important to Joplin as well as other communities. It's helping us bring much needed improvement to the City of Joplin without using our local dollars. We're actually bringing some dollars back home," said City of Joplin Finance Director, Leslie Haase.
On the list of future city projects funded by "APRA": Neighborhood improvements, the Dover Outdoor Recreation Area, and a citywide broadband fiber network.
