ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Mo. -- An Osceola police officer arrested a man from Kansas City, Kansas on Saturday, Dec. 21 after he had allegedly fled from law enforcement while intoxicated and crashed his Jeep.
According to the Osceola Police Department (OPD), at around 5:27 p.m., one of their officers saw a black Jeep speeding south on State Highway 13 in Osceola at about 45 mph above the speed limit and making a U-turn into the northbound lane while cutting off northbound traffic.
The officer tried to conduct a traffic stop but the driver, later identified as Marvin Ruiz, continued speeding, swerving across multiple northbound lanes and driving south in the northbound traffic lane, forcing multiple vehicles off the highway. During the chase, Ruiz slammed the brakes on his Jeep as the officer was in pursuit and caused the officer's patrol car to crash into his truck.
Later, the Jeep drove through a residential area in Lowry City, Missouri and crashed into a cattle fence outside city limits after losing control of his vehicle, according to court documents. The officer took Ruiz into custody while the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the accident.
After Ruiz was evaluated at a local hospital, he told officers that he was under the influence while driving and he was measured as having a BAC well above the limit for driving.
OPD says Ruiz was charged with resisting arrest by fleeing, which recently became a felony in Missouri, and aggravated DWI with no bond.
