One Missouri lawmaker wants to move the Missouri State Highway Patrol out of the Missouri Department of Public Safety.
Rep. Jeff Myers, a Republican from Warrenton, wants to create a new state department for the patrol.
The proposal would need to be changed by constitutional amendment because the number of state agencies is capped by the Missouri Constitution.
That means the creation of a new department would have to go before voters in the Show-Me State.
