Lone Pine Avenue in Springfield to close for two weeks

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Galloway Street Widening Project has reached the final stages after nearly a year under construction.

According to the city of Springfield, Lone Pine Avenue will close for roughly two weeks between the Galloway roundabout and the north Sequiota Park entrance beginning on Sept. 15.

Galloway Street and cross streets will open to allow traffic access.

“The last item for construction is the northern roundabout connection at Lone Pine,” said Project Manager Zach Butcher. “We’ll be finishing up curb and gutter and pavement and are hopeful we can get Lone Pine done within a two-week window.”

Construction on the Galloway Street Widening Project began in October 2024 and involved the widening of Galloway Street to three lanes between Luster and Lone Pine avenues with the goal to improve safety for traffic and pedestrians along Galloway Street.

Improvements include a new center turn lane, traffic calming roundabout intersections at Luster Avenue and at Lone Pine Avenue and upgraded stormwater infrastructure aimed at improving drainage along Luster Avenue.

Project cost is approximately $6.5 million and is funded through the City’s ¼-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax as well as $1.5 million (30%) from the Governor’s Transportation Cost Share Program.
