ST. LOUIS – On Friday, St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signed a bill allocating the last of the city’s COVID recovery funds for construction of a new 911 Dispatch Center.
Alderwoman Shameem Clark Hubbard (Ward 10) introduced Board Bill 126 on Nov. 1. The bill was passed on Dec. 6 by an 11-1 vote, with one absence and two abstentions, allocating $8.9 million for construction. BB 126 was approved by the mayor that same day.
In a social media post, Jones said the city is "on pace" to have every dollar of federal ARPA funds "obligated by Dec. 31." The city received $498 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, with stipulations that the money be allocated by the end of 2024 and spent by the end of 2026.
Construction on the Public Safety Access Point is slated to begin next month.
