Springfield police arrest suspect in Fort Avenue shooting

UPDATE 12/9/24 - Springfield police have arrested 45-year-old Amanda Rose McClain who is accused of shooting someone in a home near the intersection of Fort Avenue and Stanford Street on Saturday, Dec. 7.

According to the probable cause statement, officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of Fort and Stanford at approximately 7 p.m. and found the victim with a gunshot wound in his chest.

The victim told officers at the scene he was shot twice with a pistol, once grazing his face and the other in the chest." He also said that Rose McClain was the one who shot him, according to court documents. The victim was then transported to the hospital in critical condition but has since stabilized.

Officers were told the suspect fled into a house nearby. Police established a perimeter and located McClain lying in the backyard. McClain was taken into custody and was found with a controlled substance while entering Greene County Jail.

At the hospital, the victim told officers that he was living in McClain's garage in exchange for doing yardwork and that he had gotten into multiple arguments with McClain prior to the incident on Dec. 7. He said that during the incident, he opened the front door of the garage after hearing McClain knock and saw her raise a handgun and fire at him twice.

McClain is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action and is being held in Greene County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person hospitalized Saturday night.

According to SPD, the shooting occurred just after 7 p.m. at 1700 S. Fort Ave. near Stanford Street after police received a report of shots fired in the area.

Officers arrived at the scene and discovered a man outside his home with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is now stable.

SPD says multiple people were in the home when police arrived. One person was arrested, and the rest were removed from the home.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
